July 30, 2008 – Easy removals

Following yesterday’s progress, I wanted to remove the K&N air filter.  The filter is located inside the driver’s front wheel well so I removed the plastic cover in front of the wheel to access it.  Loosening one screw bolt freed it so I removed the assembly.  After having it out it looks like it could have been taken out easier and from the top.  I also drained the radiator from the peacock.  About one gallon came out so I know there is plenty more in it.

How the engine looks now

July 29, 2008 – Starting in the engine

Tonight I began removing parts from the engine bay.  The radiator shroud comes off easy, followed by the elbow and other parts between the MAF sensor and the throttle body.   It was getting dark so rather than try and get the aftermarket air filter off I removed the battery.  I’m hoping the battery will live to be reused and power the 12V system again, but I’ll write it off as $50 for now.  It was purchased about two months before the car died.

I could probably also include the new clutch I installed about 400 miles ago, but that was fun to learn how to do, so I’ll budget it as entertainment.
